Dinghy Show
The 420 offers great development for sailors in the two-person disciplines - most of the Worlds's top sailors sailors sailed in this class and easily moved on to succeed in other classes, and enjoy Olympic and big boat careers.

We have a fantastic pedigree of developing world class sailors; in 2019 Via Heathcote & Millie Boyle were crowned Ladies 420 World Champions!
In 2025 following their win at the Class British National Championsips Sabine Potter and Merle Nieuwland crowned off an impressive year by becoming the 2025 Female Youth World Champions.

Our aim is to provide accessible regional training and racing throughout the UK. The spirit in which races and events are held is almost as important as the rules to which we race. The Class has chosen to adopt the RYA Racing Charter as a fundamental policy on how it wishes to see the spirit of racing within the sport. .

Message from the Chair
It’s fantastic to be returning to Farnborough for the Dinghy Show, now firmly established as the UK’s premier event for sailors wanting to explore the leading youth pathway class — the International 420. More Olympic sailors have come through the 420 than any other double handed youth class, and once you sail the boat, it’s easy to see why.
Across the UK, the class continues to deliver highly competitive, well attended events that challenge sailors to develop technical skill, tactical awareness, and strong teamwork. Understanding the boat’s controls in all conditions, working seamlessly with your partner, and navigating the racecourse with precision make the 420 one of the most exhilarating and rewarding classes to sail.
We are also proud of our thriving regional training programmes in both the North and South, which provide structured coaching and a welcoming entry point for new sailors. With three class boats available, young sailors can try the 420 without barriers and transition smoothly into the fleet. This hands on access has been a key factor in helping new partnerships develop confidence, skills, and a real sense of belonging within the class.
We are especially delighted to celebrate 2025 World Youth Champions Sabine and Merle, who also claimed victory at the 420 British National Championships. Their partnership has grown from strength to strength, built on trust, determination, and a shared commitment to excellence. They are outstanding role models for younger sailors — demonstrating what can be achieved through hard work, supportive teamwork, and the positive environment the 420 class is known for.
What truly defines the 420 community is its camaraderie. The friendships, encouragement, and shared experiences make it an incredibly enjoyable class to be part of. Opportunities to travel to Worlds, Europeans, and international regattas help young sailors grow into confident, independent adults while creating memories that last a lifetime.
The 420 is a proven, welcoming, and accessible class for all. We’d love to meet you at Stand P10 at the RYA Dinghy Show, where our team will be delighted to chat, answer questions, and share what makes this class so special.
See you there,
Piers
