Rolling Ranking
Introducing the New 420 Class GBR Rolling Ranking!
We're excited to announce a new Rolling Ranking system for the 420 Class GBR, designed to track your performance across the season and reward consistent sailing!
Here's how it works:
- Track your best results: Your ranking is based on your best 3 results from the 5 most recent GBR 420 Class Association events.
- Stay consistent: The more events you participate in, the better your chances of improving your ranking!
- CHIPS scoring: We use the CHIPS3 (High Point Scoring) methodology, which means the higher your score, the better!
- Teamwork counts: Rankings are based on consistent helm and crew pairings. If you change partners, you'll start a new ranking as a fresh pair.
- No event? No problem: If you miss an event, you'll receive a score of 0 for that event. Don't worry, you can make it up at the next one!
- Keep track: We'll update the Rolling Ranking after each event, so you can see how you're doing. Check the link below to stay up-to-date!
Why we love the Rolling Ranking:
- It's all about participation: The more you sail, the better your chances of climbing the ranking!
- Consistency is key: It's not just about winning one event, it's about sailing well consistently throughout the season.
- Fair play: Everyone has a chance to improve their ranking, regardless of whether they can attend every event.
- Stay motivated: The Rolling Ranking gives you a goal to strive for all season long!
Understanding CHIPS Scoring
CHIPS is a high point scoring system that rewards sailors for their performance relative to the entire fleet. Here are some key features of CHIPS:
- Performance-based: Scores reflect how well you do against the whole fleet and depend on the size of the fleet.
- Consistent scoring: You score more points for beating more boats and fewer points if you're beaten by more boats.
- Highest score wins: The sailor with the highest overall points at the end of the series wins. A race winner scores 100 points when there are 36 or more boats.
- Fairness: CHIPS handles variations in fleet size between races more fairly than traditional low point scoring systems.
- More info: More information about the history and development of the CHIPS system can be found in the PDF Link below
We hope this new system and scoring method adds another exciting element to the 420 Class GBR season. Get ready to race and climb that ranking!
