Transition to a 420 - Frensham Pond Juniors try a boat day

Last weekend Frensham Pond Sailing Club held their first "try a 420" day as part of their junior Saturday training - a great iniitiative set up by Kirsten Kuhnert to help sailors move on from junior classes.  Having contacted the class to see if there was any way we could help the club transition their junior sailors into youth boats the class offered to lend the club one of the class boats.

The day started with sailors receiving an introduction to the boat, on the shore, from Megan Ferguson (ex 420 sailor).  Once questions had been answered sailors took to the water under the supervision of Megan and some of our newest members of the class.  With sailors switching in and out of the boat after a 15 minute taster they were able to try both helm and crew positions within the boat to give them a good understanding of what it is like to sail a 420 - just could have done with a little more wind!   But maybe that'll be next time!

Folllowing the success of the day the club are planning more days in the coming months and hopefully we'll see some Frensham Pond sailors on the 420 circuit soon.
