The 420 class will select a GBR team of the following teams of sailors:
7 boats comprising of male/mixed pairs.
Ladies’ 7 boats comprising of female pairs.
Next best placed boat
U17 Worlds – 3 male or mixed pairs, 3 female pairs.
The team will travel independently and arrange their own flights and transfers. The class will endeavour to co-ordinate. Sailors are expected to have arrived for training by 29th June but we are aware that this is in term time. All sailors will stay in the nominated hotel, with volunteer house parents. Breakfast and evening meal at the hotel are included. The Class will assist with co–ordination of the event and logistics for boat transport. All entries will be made by the Class. All participants are required to display their country flag on the mainsail – these will be supplied by the Class. Sailors will be required to wear team kit as appropriate. Suggested flights to be posted.
Proposed logistics:
The following accommodation has been reserved:
Hotel: Dom Hotel, Vilamoura https://vilamoura.dompedro.com/en/
Rooms booked on a half board basis
40 sailors, 4 houseparents, 4 coaches
Full payment is due as per the selection notice and below (The total cost for each sailor is likely to be about £1,600 excluding non-breakfast food, flights and transfers. This includes kit, coaches, RIBs, entry fee, half-board accommodation and boat transport). A deposit of £250 per sailor is required by Wednesday 24th April 2019. We are seeking sponsorship to reduce this cost.
Transport:
Independent fly or drive to Faro.
Flights to Faro are regular and cheap. From experience sailors have found it easier and cheaper to book from their airport of choice rather than insisting everyone departs, for example, from Heathrow. The Class will suggest some flights in due course and co-ordinate a spreadsheet of everyone’s flights in order to group transfers. Faro is 25km from the sailing club.
*We are mindful that the event is within term time for those not sitting exams and have therefore not committed to the pre-event at this stage. However, it is expected that some sailors who have finished school may wish to use this opportunity to train and the Class is preparing to provide coaching.
Boat transport:
This will be co–ordinated by the Class with volunteer drivers for group trailers and RIBs.
Coaches:
The sailors will be provided with four coaches.
